Michelle Monaghan, recently seen in "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" and who formerly starred in the Hulu series "The Path," plays a tenacious lawyer who is fighting to change America's asylum laws in the official trailer for "Saint Judy."

The upcoming inspirational melodrama, which is based on a true story, sees Monaghan as Judy Wood, a lowly immigration attorney and a struggling single mother who, after moving to Los Angeles with her young son, stumbles on an immigration case involving an asylum-seeking Afghani immigrant (played by Palestinian actress Leem Lubany, from "Omar" and TV's "Condor").

In order to save her client's life from deportation and the Taliban, Judy takes on a David vs Goliath-like legal battle in the hopes of changing the Asylum Laws in the U.S. -- so, it can begin to recognize women as a protected class.

In addition to Monaghan and Lubany, the film also stars Common, Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Peter Krause, Aimee Garcia, and Ben Schnetzer.

Directed by indie filmmaker Sean Hanish (Return to Zero), "Saint Judy" is slated to be released theatrically on March 1st.

synopsis:
SAINT JUDY tells the inspirational true story of immigration attorney Judy Wood and her fight that changed American asylum law forever.

In her first case, Judy represents a woman forced to flee her home country after being persecuted by the Taliban for opening a school for girls. While juggling her life as a single mother, Judy fights tenacious battles in and out of court, not only saving her client's life, but changing the Law of Asylum in the United States. This case has saved the lives of thousands of other persecuted women around the world.

Like ERIN BROCKOVICH, SAINT JUDY tells the story of a remarkable woman who overcame tremendous odds, and reminds us how one person can change the world.
