After a well-received premiere at last year's Fantastic Fest, "Level 16," a dark dystopian thriller set entirely inside an abusive all-girls boarding school, will be getting a theatrical and VOD release in March.

Written and directed by up-and-coming Canadian filmmaker Danishka Esterhazy (Black Field), "Level 16" has been compared to "The Handmaid's Tale" as it deals with similar themes of female suppression and gender inequality.

Featuring a mostly female cast led by Katie Douglas (TV's Mary Kills People, Every Day), Sara Canning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Vampire Diaries), Celina Martin, and Alexis Whelan, "Level 16" follows a group of orphaned teen girls as they are put through a rigorous and brutal program at a mysterious boarding school, where all girls are required to be "clean" at all times.

The indie thriller will open in select theaters on March 1st. It will also arrive on VOD. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer, above.
