In order to protect her baby brother from a soul-sucking demon who is masquerading as a creepy local shop owner, a feisty New Zealand teen must learn how to "changeover" from being an ordinary girl to a powerful new witch in the supernatural thriller "The Changeover."

Based on the award-winning 1984 supernatural teen novel of the same name by the late, New Zealand author Margaret Mahy, the film stars newcomer Erana James as 16-year-old Laura Chant who finds herself being drawn into a supernatural battle when her younger brother becomes the target of a malicious ancient spirit (played by acclaimed British actor Timothy Spall).

The cast also includes Melanie Lynskey (Castle Rock), Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), Nicholas Galitzine (High Strung), and Thomasin McKenzie (Leave No Trace).

Co-directed by filmmaker Stuart McKenzie and actress Miranda Harcourt, "The Changeover" was released in New Zealand back in 2017, but is finally getting a U.S. release next month, hitting select U.S. theaters and VOD on February 22nd. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
Sixteen year-old Laura Chant (Erana James) lives with her mother and four-year-old brother Jacko in a poor new suburb on the edge of a partially demolished Christchurch, New Zealand.

Laura is drawn into a supernatural battle with an ancient spirit who attacks Jacko and slowly drains the life out of him as the spirit becomes ever younger. Laura discovers her true identity and the supernatural ability within her, and must harness it to save her brother's life.
