Meet Maya and Anna. They're 13 years old. They're best friends. And 2000 is going to be the best year of their lives.
Travel back in time when middle school was awkward, embarrassing, super-hormonal, and everybody was bopping their heads to the hit song, "Steal My Sunshine."
Real-life best friends Maya Erskine (from HBO's Insecure) and Anna Konkle (from FOX's Rosewood) play semi-fictional 13-year-old versions of themselves in this new Hulu coming-of-age comedy series, which is executive produced by Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone (better known together as The Lonely Island).
Inspired by Maya and Anna's true-life middle school stories, "PEN15" follows the awkward struggles and social frustrations of two 7th-grade best friends, played here by the series creators, who, oddly enough, are interacting with actual 13-year-old kid actors.
Co-created and director by Sam Zvibleman, "PEN15" is set to premiere on Hulu February 8th.
