When she discovers she has superhuman abilities, a young mother is forced to leave her family behind and go on the run. After years of hiding, she returns home, only to discover that her now-ten-year-old daughter has developed superpowers of her own in this superhero-tinged fugitive drama, for which a trailer has been released.

"Fast Color" stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Black Mirror: San Junipero, A Wrinkle in Time) as Ruth, said fugitive mother with superpowers, while 12-year-old actress Saniyya Sidney (FOX's The Passage) plays her equally gifted daughter, Lila.

While referring to her daughter's well-being, Mbatha-Raw's Ruth asks in the above trailer, "Does she ... have?"

Before Ruth can finish her question, her mother (played by Orange Is the New Black's Lorraine Toussaint) promptly answers it: "Yes! But not like yours. Lila is different. She can see the colors."

And it's not long before both mother and daughter are hunted down by a rogue government scientist, played by Christopher Denham (Argo, Billions).

David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum, Godzilla) also co-stars as the local sheriff.

"Fast Color" is directed by indie filmmaker Julia Hart (Miss Stevens), who also wrote the screenplay with her husband Jordan Horowitz, who is perhaps better known as the Oscar-nominated producer of "La La Land."

The film, which premiered at SXSW last year, will be released in select theaters on April 19th.
