Okay, this is a real thing, and it's really coming soon.

Following last night's surprise announcement that acclaimed filmmaker Jason Reitman (son of legendary comedy director Ivan Reitman) has secretly been working on a script for a sequel to his father's classic "Ghostbusters" movies, comes the surprise release of an early teaser for the 2020 film project.

Jason Reitman, best known for directing the critically acclaimed films "Juno" and "Thank You for Smoking," and most recently "Tully" and "The Front Runner," has apparently finished a completed script for a new "Ghostbusters" movie, which is a direct sequel to the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel, both of which were directed by his father, Ivan Reitman.

"I've always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans," Reitman recently told EW.com, exclusively.

While plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, Reitman did go on to say this about the forthcoming movie: "This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the '80s happened in the '80s, and this is set in the present day."

Meanwhile, the above teaser clip starts off with an old-fashioned barn in the middle of nowhere. It's nighttime. You hear the slight rustling of leaves. The camera then swoops in as it passes through the opened barn doors. We finally see a mysterious vehicle wrapped up in a large tarp. Suddenly, we see some sparks of blue electricity (possibly from a proton pack?). Then a gust of wind lifts up the tarp ever so briefly, revealing the famed Ectomobile. It's a little beaten up, but we can only hope it's still operational.

With production set to start in a couple of months, Jason Reitman will direct the sequel from a script he co-wrote with filmmaker Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember, Poltergeist Remake).

While a cast has yet to be announced, Sony Pictures has already scheduled the new, Untitled Ghostbusters Sequel for 2021.
