Anthem of a Teenage Prophet — Official Trailer

added: Tue, Jan 8th '19

A high school misfit suffers from severe emotional distress when he correctly predicts the tragic death of his best friend in this supernatural-tinged teenage drama.

Cameron Monaghan, who you may have seen on TV playing the Joker-like villain Jerome Valeska on FOX's Batman prequel series "Gotham" or playing the closeted gay teen Ian Gallagher on Showtime's gritty Boston family dramedy "Shameless," stars as the titular "prophet of death" in this feature adaptation of Joanne Proulx's award-winning young adult novel.

Also starring Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers) and Peyton List (Hulu's Light as a Feather), "Anthem of a Teenage Prophet" is the feature directorial debut of commercial director Robin Hays, who has previously made several short films and even produced the Neill Blomkamp-directed sci-fi short "Alive in Joburg."

"Anthem of a Teenage Prophet" is being released theatrically in select U.S. cities on January 11th. It will also be made available on iTunes. Watch the trailer, above.

Based on the award-winning novel, a teenager's gift of premonition becomes a curse when after predicting the death of one of his friends, Luke Hunter (Cameron Monaghan) is dubbed the "prophet of death" by a local news reporter. A media madhouse infiltrates Luke's life, everyone in his Michigan hometown desperate to know more. Luke holds everyone at arm's length -- the relentless news crew, his father and mother (Juliette Lewis), even Faith (Peyton List), the girl he has secretly loved for as long as he can remember -- telling no one that the premonitions keep coming. Troubled and confused, Luke must make sense of his newfound abilities in this fast-moving tale of struggling youth.
