Amazon has released a new official U.S. trailer for "Cold War," the award-winning black-and-white Polish romantic drama from acclaimed filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski, who previously won the Best Foreign Film Oscar for the 2013 Polish nun drama "Ida."

The decade-spanning, visually-striking film, starring Polish actor Tomasz Kot (Bikini Blue, Bogowie) and Polish actress Joanna Kulig (The Innocents, Ida), is loosely inspired by the story of how Pawlikowski's parents -- in this case, two Polish musicians -- first met and fell in love during the political and social turmoils of the Iron Curtain era.

"Cold War," which premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival where Pawlikowski was honored with the Best Director award, is highly likely to receive a best foreign language Oscar nomination, quite possibly going up against Pawlikowski's filmmaker pal, Alfonso Cuaron, who coincidentally also made a highly-personal, black-and-white, visually-stunning art-house drama, "Roma."

"Cold War" is currently playing in select U.S. theaters.

synopsis:
Cold War is a passionate love story between two people of different backgrounds and temperaments, who are fatally mismatched and yet fatefully condemned to each other. Set against the background of the Cold War in the 1950's in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris--the film depicts an impossible love story in impossible times.
