Why not ring in the new year with "a concept piece" brought to you by the good people behind the mind-bending anthology series "Black Mirror"?

Check out the newly-released official trailer for "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch," a standalone Netflix movie event that appears to be a surprise appetizer to the much-anticipated and highly-secretive fifth "Black Mirror" season.

Set in the 1980s, "Bandersnatch" stars "Dunkirk" actor Fionn Whitehead as a young British video-game programmer who has just been given the task to turn a complicated fantasy novel into a choose-your-own-adventure game. But when the video game designer delves into the fantasy author's painful past and disturbing private life ("Wasn't he that bloke who went cuckoo and cut his wife's head off?"), he finds himself suffering from the same type of madness -- where he is not in control of his own fate.

"Bandersnatch" also stars Will Poulter (The Revenant, Detroit), Alice Lowe (Sightseers), and Asim Chaudhry.

Acclaimed TV helmer David Slade (American Gods, Hannibal), who also directed the black-and-white "Metalhead" episode in Black Mirror's fourth season, directs "Bandersnatch," which is rumored to be a choose-your-own-adventure movie, the first interactive Netflix project where the viewer can control the plot, selecting from different story-lines (though that has yet to be confirmed, as any details concerning Black Mirror episodes are always tightly guarded and kept under wraps).

"Black Mirror: Bandersnatch" premieres this Friday, December 28th, only on Netflix.
