Bird Box — Five-Minute Sneak Peek Clip

Netflix has released a five-minute sneak peek clip from "Bird Box," the Sandra Bullock-starring horror thriller that follows a mother of two as she tries to protect her young children from a deadly supernatural phenomenon, in which an undetectable phantom-like entity drives people to commit suicide.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Josh Malerman, the film imagines an apocalyptic world where the human population is decimated. The remaining survivors are hiding out in the woods, forced to wear blindfolds as the mere glimpse of this dark evil specter is enough to bring about their own demise.

The extended clip starts off with a blindfolded Sandra Bullock trying to place her blindfolded children into a small boat. She then precariously rows along the river -- to where, we don't know. Cut to: "Five Years Earlier." And we see a very pregnant Sandra Bullock at her doctor's office. She's with her sister (played by Sarah Paulson). But when they try to leave the hospital in their car, Sandra is noticing a few people have started to harm themselves. Car crashes and explosions ensue. And then the unthinkable happens -- we see Sarah Paulson, while behind the wheel of the car, stuck in a strange, almost hypnotic-like daze. She quickly veers into oncoming traffic, flipping the car on its roof.

Directed by award-winning Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier (In a Better World, The Night Manager) and written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (Arrival), "Bird Box" also stars Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Lil Rel Howery, Rosa Salazar, and Danielle Macdonald.

The film opens in select theaters and also is premiering on Netflix this Friday, December 21st.

When a mysterious force decimates the world's population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they'll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.
