Bel Powley (White Boy Rick, The Diary of a Teenage Girl) plays a young Lithuanian artist whose life is upended during Stalin's invasion of Eastern Europe in the newly-released trailer for the WWII drama "Ashes in the Snow."

The film, directed by documentary filmmaker Marius A. Markevicius (The Other Dream Team) and written by Ben York Jones (Like Crazy, Everything Sucks!), is an adaptation of the best-selling inspired-by-true-events WWII novel "Between Shades of Gray" by Ruta Sepetys.

Powley plays Lina, a 16 year-old aspiring artist who is sent to a sadistic Siberian labor camp with her family after her country of Lithuania is brutally invaded and occupied by Stalin's Red Army. To cope with the horrors of war, Lina turns to her love of drawing. But in order to stay true to herself, she feels the need to draw and document the daily atrocities committed by the Stalin regime.

Co-starring Peter Franzen (Vikings), Martin Wallstrom (Mr. Robot), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Wonder Woman), and Jonah Hauer-King (Little Women), "Ashes in the Snow" is hitting select theaters and VOD on January 11, 2019. Watch the official trailer, above.
