A young, bearded Spock (played here by Ethan Peck) receives an apocalyptic vision: "Someone, or something, is going to end all sentient life in the galaxy."

So, things don't look particularly rosy for Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Commander Saru (Doug Jones), and the rest of the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery as they find themselves in the middle of a fight for the future in the new official trailer for Season 2 of the hit CBS streaming series "Star Trek: Discovery."

With Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), the current helmer of the famed starship U.S.S. Enterprise, added into the mix, while rogue Starfleet agent Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) returns under questionable circumstances, Season 2 is going to be raising the stakes with the introduction of a new mysterious threat: "The Red Angel."

Set roughly a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series and perhaps on an alternate separate timeline, "Star Trek: Discovery" is set to return with its Second Season on January 17th, exclusively on the CBS All Access streaming service.
