Watch Alita as she goes from angel to warrior in a brand-new action-packed international trailer for the forthcoming cyberpunk actioner based on Yukito Kishiro's manga and anime series "Gunnm (aka Battle Angel Alita)."
Directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Machete, Spy Kids) and produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic, The Terminator), the dystopian thriller follows the epic journey of an amnesiac cyborg girl named Alita (performed in motion capture by actress Rosa Salazar, from the two "Maze Runner" sequels), who was salvaged from a scrapyard and put back together by a skillful robot technician (played by Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz), but soon learns of her mysterious past and true identity -- she's an ancient cybernetic warrior with incredible power and an incredible sense of courage and morality.
Now faced with the threat of being hunted down by cyborg mercenaries, Waltz's Dr. Dyson Ido warns Alita about the dangers of getting damage: "If you wreck this body, I can't fix it." To which she replies in the new trailer, "I know ... But I do not standby in the presence of evil."
The cast also includes Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connelly, and Keean Johnson, while Ed Skrein (Deadpool) and Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) appear as deadly cyborg assassins.
Co-written by Rodriguez, Cameron, and Laeta Kalogridis (Altered Carbon, Shutter Island) who were working from an adapted screenplay that was developed for over 15 years by Cameron, "Alita: Battle Angel" is coming to theaters February 14, 2019.
synopsis:
Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita (Rosa Salazar) is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first. As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, Hugo (Keean Johnson), offers instead to help trigger her memories. A growing affection develops between the two until deadly forces come after Alita and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she’s grown to love. Determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, Alita sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world, and discover that one young woman can change the world in which she lives.
