What if Clark Kent didn't grow up to become Superman, but instead became the most dangerous super-villain the world has ever seen!

That's the basic gist behind "Brightburn," an upcoming horror movie that puts a dark and twisted spin on the superhero genre.

Hailing from producer James Gunn, the filmmaker of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Slither," the thriller stars Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games) and David Denman (Logan Lucky, 13 Hours) as a small-town couple who find themselves rescuing a human-like alien infant from the fiery wreckage of a crash-landed spaceship. Much like Superman's origins, the boy (played here by Jackson A. Dunn) is raised as the couple's adoptive son. But when he shows signs of having a strange demeanor, bordering on sinister, the boy, who now possesses superhuman abilities, isn't as innocent and wholesome as he looks. He may be someone to fear, and possibly someone to run from.

Co-starring Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner, "Brightburn" is directed by horror filmmaker David Yarovesky (The Hive) from a script written by James Gunn's brothers, Mark Gunn & Brian Gunn, who also penned "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island."

"Brightburn" is coming to theaters May 24, 2019. Watch the newly-released official trailer, above.
