Donald Sutherland must defend himself as he is forced to stand trial for crimes he may or may not have committed in the trailer for the indie hostage thriller "American Hangman."

Also, starring Mad Men's Vincent Kartheiser, the film sees the veteran 83-year-old actor, perhaps best known for starring in the classic films "M.A.S.H." and "Don't Look Now" and most recently in the FX series "Trust" and "The Hunger Games" film franchise, as a judge who, after being abducted and held hostage by a mentally unstable kidnapper, is accused of corruption and murder.

Kartheiser plays said kidnapper, who believes wholeheartedly that the judge is corrupt. So much so that he has placed the judge in a makeshift courtroom where he is to stand trial for his crimes. While broadcasting live on the internet, the judge gets to plead his case to an online public as they will act as judge and jury, through a voting poll system.

Written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Wilson Coneybeare and co-starring Al Sapienza (House of Cards, The Sopranos) and Jess Salguiero (The Boys, Orphan Black), "American Hangman" is hitting theaters and VOD/Digital HD on January 4, 2019.

synopsis:
American Hangman is a thriller built around a relentlessly ticking clock and a rapidly approaching deadline and verdict. A kidnapping, broadcast live on social media, turns into the trial of a judge who presided over a botched criminal case. This time, however, the audience gets to play judge and jury, deciding if the judge himself gets to live or die.
