Check out the first official trailer for "Watership Down," Netflix and BBC's upcoming CG-animated miniseries based on the award-winning 1972 novel of the same name by English novelist Richard Adams.

Featuring a stellar voice cast that includes the likes of James McAvoy (Split), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Ben Kingsley (Schindler's List), John Boyega (Star Wars), Nicholas Hoult (X-Men), Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace), and Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), the four-part drama follows the precarious journey of a travelling group of rabbits as they are forced to flee the imminent destruction of their home, only to relocate to a new territory ruled by a tyrannical rabbit dictator -- the terrifying General Woundwort (voiced by Kingsley).

The same source material was adapted into a cult 1978 cartoon feature, which drew some controversy due to its disturbing imagery of violence and gory death scenes. That film is still regarded as one of the best British animated movies of its time.

The new upcoming miniseries version was adapted for the screen by British TV writer Tom Bidwell (My Mad Fat Diary) and is directed by former commercial helmer-turned-feature film director Noam Murro (300: Rise of an Empire, Smart People).

"Watership Down" will be airing in the U.K on BBC One on December 22nd through Dec. 23rd. It will also start streaming on Netflix on Dec. 23rd.
