Amazon Studios has released the official U.S. trailer for "Vanity Fair," a seven-part British miniseries based on William Makepeace Thackeray's classic 1848 novel of the same name.

Set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, the period drama stars Ready Player One's Olivia Cooke as Becky Sharp, the daughter of a French opera girl and an artist father who climbs out of poverty to break through the ranks of high society.

Directed by TV helmer James Strong (Broadchurch, Gracepoint) and written by three-time BAFTA-nominated writer Gwyneth Hughes (The Girl, Remember Me, Five Days), the mini-series also features Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express) as Captain Rawdon Crawley; Claudia Jessie (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) as Amelia Sedley; Johnny Flynn (Genius: Einstein) as William Dobbin; Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Lord Steyne; Frances de la Tour (Hugo) as Lady Matilda Crawley and Michael Palin as the author William Makepeace Thackeray.

"Vanity Fair" will make its US debut on Amazon Prime beginning December 21st.

In a world where everyone is striving for what is not worth having, no one is more determined to climb to the heights of English Society than Miss Rebecca Sharp.
