Natalie Portman is getting a chance to show off her singing chops as she plays a famous superstar diva in the upcoming pop-star drama "Vox Lux," for which a brand-new trailer has been released.

Featuring original songs written by SIA and also featuring the pop song "Wrapped Up" as performed by Portman, the film charts the complicated life of a fictional recording artist named Celeste, played both by Portman and 16-year-old British actress Raffey Cassidy (Tomorrowland, The Killing of a Sacred Deer).

The film covers three significant periods in the singer's life, beginning in the year 1999 when Celeste (played by Cassidy) is a young aspiring singer and songwriter who has just written her first hit song, after just surviving a horrific high school shooting. The story will jump forward in time as Celeste is now a troubled world-famous pop star and the mother of a rebellious teenage girl (also played here by Cassidy).

Jude Law co-stars in the film as Celeste's longtime and overly controlling manager. The cast also includes Christopher Abbott and Stacy Martin.

Actor-turned-filmmaker Brady Corbet, who previously made his feature film debut with the 2015 acclaimed fictional historical thriller "The Childhood of a Leader," wrote and directed "Vox Lux," which premiered to mostly positive reviews at the Venice Film Festival this year.

"Vox Lux" is set to open in select theaters on December 7th, before expanding nationwide December 14th.

synopsis:
VOX LUX begins in 1999 when teenage sisters Celeste (Raffey Cassidy) and Eleanor (Stacy Martin) survive a seismic, violent tragedy. The sisters compose and perform a song about their experience, making something lovely and cathartic out of catastrophe -- while also catapulting Celeste to stardom. By 2017, the now 31-year-old Celeste (Natalie Portman) is mother to a teenage daughter of her own and struggling to navigate a career fraught with scandals when another act of terrifying violence demands her attention.
