Christopher Abbott (Vox Lux, HBO's Girls) and Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak, Alice in Wonderland) plunge into a darkly twisted game of cat and mouse in the trailer for "Piercing."

This stylish psycho-sexual thriller, which also co-stars Laia Costa (Life Itself, Victoria), comes from rising horror filmmaker Nicolas Pesce, who previously made his feature debut with the critically acclaimed black-and-white horror "The Eyes of My Mother."

"Piercing" is based on a novel by cult Japanese writer Ryu Murakami, who is perhaps best known for writing the source material for director Takashi Miike's cult horror classic "Audition."

Here, Abbott plays a troubled married man grappling with homicidal impulses. While fearing he might harm his newborn baby, he devises a devious plan to quench his bloodlust. He sets out to murder a young prostitute (played by Wasikowska) inside a hotel room, only to have his plans foiled when she doesn't turn out to be some kind of delicate flower.

"Piercing" is due to hit theaters and VOD on February 1, 2019.
