Netflix has released the official trailer for "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle," the upcoming film adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's classic adventure novel "The Jungle Book," which is directed by famed motion-capture artist and actor Andy Serkis.

The film, which originally was going to be released by Warner Bros. but was sold to Netflix back in July, features kid actor Rohan Chand (Bad Words, The Hundred-Foot Journey) as the titular Mowgli, an orphaned Indian boy who is raised in the jungle by a family of wolves.

Incorporating live action with photo-realistic computer-generated animals, among those providing the voices of jungle creatures are Christian Bale as the cunning panther, Bagheera, Cate Blanchett as the sinister snake, Kaa, Benedict Cumberbatch as the fearsome tiger, Shere Khan, Naomie Harris as Mowgli's wolf mother Nisha and Andy Serkis as the wise bear, Baloo.

Slumdog Millionaire's Freida Pinto co-stars as Messua, an Indian woman who adopts the wild Mowgli after he is driven out of the jungle. Meanwhile, Matthew Rhys (FX's The Americans) plays British explorer John Lockwood.

"Mowgli" is slated for a December 7th release, simultaneously opening in select theaters and streaming on Netflix.

Acclaimed actor and director Andy Serkis reinvents Rudyard Kipling’s beloved masterpiece, in which a boy torn between two worlds accepts his destiny and becomes a legend. Mowgli has never truly belonged in either the wilds of the jungle or the civilized world of man. Now he must navigate the inherent dangers of each on a journey to discover where he truly belongs.
