Check out a newly-released extended look at "Mortal Engines," the upcoming post-apocalyptic action-adventure film from Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit Trilogy, King Kong) and Oscar-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy).

Starring Icelandic actress Hera Hilmar (Da Vinci's Demons), Irish actor Robert Sheehan (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones), Australian actor Hugo Weaving (The Matrix trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), and Korean singer/actress Jihae (Mars), the sci-fi action film is based on Philip Reeve's best-selling steampunk novel series, which is set in a post-apocalyptic futuristic world where cities are now gigantic moving war machines that roam the Earth.

The story follows an elusive facially scarred fugitive named Hester Shaw (Hilmar) as she sets out on a quest to exact revenge on the man who murdered her mother. His name is Thaddeus Valentine (Weaving) and he's the evil scoundrel who runs London, the fastest and most feared predator city in the world.

Marking the feature directorial debut of visual-effects and storyboard artist Christian Rivers, who has worked for Jackson since 1992's "Braindead (aka Dead Alive)," the film also co-stars Leila George, Ronan Raftery, and Stephen Lang.

Adapted for the screen by Jackson, along with his longtime writing partners Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, "Mortal Engines" is scheduled to open theatrically on December 14th. Watch the new preview, above.
