Boy Erased — Official Final Trailer

Check out the final trailer for "Boy Erased," the gay-conversion therapy drama based on the best-selling memoir by Garrard Conley.

The film stars Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea, Lady Bird) as a 19-year-old closeted gay teen who is outed to his religious mother and Baptist pastor father (played by Oscar-winners Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe). In order to continue a relationship with his parents, he agrees to undergo a church-supported gay conversion therapy program. And he soon discovers the therapy is a dishonest, unethical practice that's mainly based on outdated psychoanalytic theories that end up doing more harm than good.

Joel Edgerton (star of "Loving" and "Warrior") plays the strict church counselor supervising the controversial gay conversion therapy program. Edgerton also wrote and directed the film, which premiered to mostly positive reviews a month ago at Telluride and TIFF.

Co-starring Cherry Jones, Michael "Flea" Balzary, and Troye Sivan, "Boy Erased" is opening theatrically in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco this Friday, and will open nationwide November 16th.

"Boy Erased" tells the story of Jared (Lucas Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program -- or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith.

"Boy Erased" is the true story of one young man's struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.
