"Thunder Road" marks the auspicious feature film debut of writer, director, and actor Jim Cummings, who seemingly delivers a star-making performance that is equal parts tragic and darkly funny.

The indie film, which earned a Grand Jury Award at this year's SXSW Film Festival, follows a Texas police officer (Cummings) as he finds himself on the verge of a total breakdown following the death of his mother and the dissolution of his marriage.

The film, a tragic dramedy with dry, deadpan humor, is based on the 2016 Sundance-and-SXSW-winning short film of the same name by Cummings, which was shot in one continuous 12-minute take in which Cummings played a cop giving a heartfelt, tearful, and disturbingly awkward eulogy at his mother's funeral. (You can watch the short film here and other shorts made by Cummings, as well.)

Co-starring Kendal Farr, Nican Robinson, Jocelyn DeBoer, Chelsea Edmundson, Bill Wise, and Macon Blair, "Thunder Road" is currently playing in select theaters in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix with additional cities to be added throughout November.

The film is also scheduled to be released on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Vimeo and other digital platforms on October 30th. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
From the Sundance-winning short film, THUNDER ROAD follows Officer Jim Arnaud (Jim Cummings) on his journey to raise his young daughter as a love letter to his late Mom. A tragicomic portrait of a flailing American authority figure, the film will have you laughing and crying, often within the same sentence.
