It's starts as a classic World War II adventure movie, and then suddenly turns into a monster horror film, or so says producer J.J. Abrams in a new featurette for the upcoming Nazi horror thriller "Overlord," which comes from his production company Bad Robot.

Directed by Australian filmmaker Julius Avery (Son of a Gun), "Overlord" stars Jovan Adepo (Fences), Wyatt Russell (Black Mirror: Playtest), John Magaro (The Big Short), and Iain De Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as U.S. paratroopers who are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a covert mission in France, only to discover a ramshackle church has been converted into a secret underground laboratory, for which German Nazis have been conducting horrific science experiments on captured soldiers.

"We are all doing our best to, above all else, get the mission done with these dire circumstances," says Adepo, who in the film plays a U.S. soldier named 'Boyce' who partners up with a young French female resistance fighter (played by newcomer Mathilde Ollivier). He adds, "[there's a lot of things] that they weren't expecting to encounter. So I think there's a lot of surprises in there."

"Overlord," which has been generating buzz since premiering to strong reviews at Fantastic Fest last month, is slated for a November 9th theatrical release.

synopsis:
With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers (Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, John Magaro, Iain De Caestecker) drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a mission that's crucial to the invasion's success. Tasked with destroying a radio transmitter atop a fortified church, the desperate soldiers join forces with a young French villager to penetrate the walls and take down the tower. But, in a mysterious Nazi lab beneath the church, the outnumbered G.I.s come face-to-face with enemies unlike any the world has ever seen.

From producer J.J. Abrams, Overlord is a thrilling, pulse-pounding action adventure with a twist.
