From executive producers Jay and Mark Duplass, "Unlovable" is a whimsical off-kilter dramedy that tells the story of how a recovering sex and love addict develops a close friendship with a grumpy, cynical recluse after starting a garage band together.

The film stars L.A.-based comic performer/drummer Charlene deGuzman (creator and star of the hit viral short "I Forgot My Phone") as Joy, an aimless woman in a 12-step program for sex and love addiction.

Oscar-winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter) co-stars as Joy's recovery sponsor, meanwhile Oscar-nominee John Hawkes (Winter's Bone) plays Leo's reclusive, shut-in brother who, unexpectedly, finds himself becoming Joy's best friend and band-mate.

Inspired by deGuzman's own life experience as a recovering sex and love addict, the indie film initially started out as a potential TV project for which the pilot was written by deGuzman. That was eventually developed into a feature-length screenplay co-penned by deGuzman with support from Mark Duplass and filmmaker Sarah Adina Smith (Buster's Mal Heart).

Indie filmmaker Suzi Yoonessi, who previously made 2009's indie coming-of-age comedy "Dear Lemon Lima," directs "Unlovable," which also co-stars Paul James (from the Hulu series "The Path").

"Unlovable," which premiered earlier in the year at SXSW, is being released in theaters and on VOD beginning November 2nd. Watch the trailer, above.
