The first official trailer has been released for "The Little Drummer Girl," an upcoming miniseries based on John le Carre's 1983 espionage thriller novel of the same name.
It stars Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water, Nocturnal Animals) as an international spy mastermind who recruits a young English actress (played here by Florence Pugh, of "Lady Macbeth" and "Outlaw King") for an undercover spy mission, in which she travels to Greece and becomes romantically involved with an Israeli intelligence officer (Emmy-winner Alexander Skarsgard, of "Big Little Lies") who is hunting down an elusive Palestinian terrorist.
Hailing from the same producers who brought you the Emmy-winning British miniseries "The Night Manager" (which was also an adaptation of a John le Carre novel), the 1970s-set stylish suspense thriller is a co-production between AMC and BBC.
Acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, The Handmaiden) directs the entire six-hour miniseries, which was written by Claire Wilson (TV's Partners in Crime) and Michael Lesslie (Assassin's Creed, Macbeth).
"The Little Drummer Girl" will premiere over three consecutive nights on AMC in the U.S., airing in two-hour installments beginning on Monday, November 19th, followed by a new two-hour episode on Tuesday, November 20th and then the final two-hour conclusion on Wednesday November 21st.
synopsis:
Brilliant young actress Charlie (Florence Pugh) strikes up an acquaintance with an intriguing stranger while on holiday in Greece, but it rapidly becomes apparent that his intentions are far from romantic. The man is Becker (Alexander Skarsgard), an Israeli intelligence officer, who entangles her in a complex and high stakes plot which unfolds as she takes on the role of a lifetime in the "theatre of the real".
Set in the late 1970s, yet sharply contemporary, "The Little Drummer Girl" weaves a dynamic and exciting story of espionage and international intrigue; of love and betrayal.
