Amazon has released the first look teaser for "The Boys," a darkly comic superhero series based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's edgy comic book series about a group of vigilantes trying to take down a corporate-funded, crooked superhero team.

Executive produced by writing/producing/directing duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who also are currently behind "The Preacher" television series, which is an adaptation of another cult comic book by Garth Ennis, "The Boys" is set in an alternate world where superheroes are treated like highly influential and powerful celebrities and are revered as deities.

The series stars Karl Urban (Dredd, Star Trek), Laz Alonso (Detroit, Avatar), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Jack Quaid (Logan Lucky), and Tomer Kapon (Entebbe) as members of an underground vigilante team who call themselves "The Boys." Their job is to keep the superhero community under surveillance and look for any signs of corruption.

Elisabeth Shue also stars in the Amazon series, playing the chief executive of Vought International, a shady corporation that presides over superhero celebrities. The company's main clients are "The Seven" (played by Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, Dominique McElligott, Antony Starr, Nathan Mitchell) who are the most famous superhero team in the world, and are secretly the most corrupt.

"The Boys" is coming to Amazon sometime in 2019. Watch the teaser, above.

synopsis:
In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, THE BOYS centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as "The Boys," who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

THE BOYS is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes -- who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods -- abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It's the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about "The Seven," and Vought -- the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes.
