Hilary Swank fights for patients' rights in the official trailer for the based-on-a-true-story legal drama "55 Steps."

The two-time Oscar-winner plays a lawyer who is tasked with handling a groundbreaking class-action lawsuit, in which a middle-aged, mentally-ill woman (played by "Ocean's Eight" actress Helena Bonham Carter) wants to have the right to refuse her doctor's orders and choose her own medication.

The film, which is based on the true story of mental patient-turned-mental health activist Eleanor Riese, is directed by veteran Danish filmmaker Bille August, whose film credits include 1998's "Les Miserables" and the 1987 Oscar-winning foreign-language drama "Pelle the Conqueror."

Co-starring Johan Heldenbergh and Jeffrey Tambor, "55 Steps" will be released digitally on October 16th before arriving in select theaters on November 16th.

synopsis:
55 Steps is based on the inspiring true story of Eleanor Riese, a mental illness patient herself, who brings a class action suit to give competent mental patients the right to have a say in their medication while they're in a hospital, and Colette Hughes, the lawyer appointed to her case.
