Universal Pictures has released a brand-new "First Man" trailer, which features an excerpt from John F. Kennedy's famous "We choose to go to the Moon" speech, and it ends with Neil Armstrong's historic moon-landing statement: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Already being viewed as one of the front-runners for the Oscars, "First Man" stars Ryan Gosling as famed Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong and co-stars recent Emmy-winner Claire Foy (The Crown) as his wife, Janet.

The film, directed by Oscar-winning "La La Land" filmmaker Damien Chazelle and written by Oscar-winning "Spotlight" screenwriter Josh Singer, follows the events that led up to the 1969 moon landing, in which Armstrong became the first man to ever walk on the moon.

The film is also charting Armstrong's years working on NASA's Apollo program, which begun with several failed tests and tragic deaths.

Based on Armstrong's official biography by James R. Hansen, "First Man" is hitting theaters October 12th.

synopsis:
On the heels of their six-time Academy Award-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures' First Man, the riveting story of NASA's mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost -- on Armstrong and on the nation -- of one of the most dangerous missions in history.
