Captain Marvel — Official Trailer

Sorry, Captain America. But it appears that the MCU has a new captain to root for. And fans are very excited about finally seeing her in action.

So, without much further ado. Behold the very first trailer for "Captain Marvel," the highly-anticipated superhero movie that stars Academy Award-winner Brie Larson (Room) as former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot-turned-super-powered Starforce officer, Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel!

Widely regarded as one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- and possibly the only one who can beat Thanos, "Captain Marvel" is not only a kick-ass female superheroine, but is also the first female character to have her own solo superhero movie in the MCU.

"Captain Marvel" is also the first MCU movie to be set in the 1990s, which features a younger Nick Fury (again played by Samuel L. Jackson -- this time, without an eye patch!). The film will also introduce the Skrulls. They're an evil race of green-colored aliens who have the formidable ability to shape-shift.

Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One, Ready Player One) is playing Skrull leader Talos, who is secretly posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in human form.

The cast also includes Jude Law as Mar-Vell, the commander of an elite Kree intergalactic team called Starforce, who becomes Danvers' mentor after an accident causes her human DNA to fuse with Kree DNA, which gives her extraordinary powers -- and also a shaky memory.

Gemma Chan and Lashana Lynch also co-star, while Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace are reprising their respective "Guardians of the Galaxy" roles as Kree warriors, Korath the Pursuer and Ronan the Accuser.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaking duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind, Half Nelson), "Captain Marvel" will be released nationwide on March 8th, approximately two months before the release of "Avengers: Infinity War Part II."

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
