Netflix has released the official trailer for "Apostle," the dark period thriller from Gareth Evans, writer and director of "The Raid" franchise.

The 1905-set thriller stars Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast, FX's Legion) as a British man named Thomas Richardson who, after sailing to a faraway island, joins a barbaric religious cult led by the tyrannical Prophet Malcom (played by Welsh actor Michael Sheen, of "Masters of Sex").

While posing as a new church recruit, Thomas is secretly on a mission to find and rescue his younger sister, Andrea (played by "Sing Street" actress Lucy Boynton), who was taken from her family years ago and is now living on the remote island as a brain-washed cult member. However, when Prophet Malcom suddenly realizes that his "paradise" island has a sneaky intruder, Thomas is forced to act quickly and very, very aggressively.

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves." Or in other words, let the bodies hit the floor!

"Apostle," which is writer-director Gareth Evans's first film since directing his "The Raid" movies, is set to premiere October 12th on Netflix, just in time for this Halloween season.

synopsis:
The year is 1905. Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she's kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.
