Check out the official trailer for "Wildlife," the upcoming film adaptation of Richard Ford's acclaimed novel about a 1960s Montana couple whose marriage is falling apart in front of their 14-year-old son's eyes.

Marking the directorial debut of actor Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine), the film stars Oscar-nominated actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan as the unhappy husband and wife.

Australian-born actor Ex Oxenbould (from M. Night Shyamalan's "The Visit") plays Gyllenhaal and Mulligan's teenage son, Joe, who quietly witnesses his parents' bitter break-up as his newly unemployed father leaves the family to volunteer to fight a raging forest fire near the Montana-Canada border.

Co-starring Bill Camp (Hulu's The Looming Tower, HBO's The Night Of), "Wildlife" premiered to strong reviews at Sundance this year. And it's currently playing at TIFF and is scheduled to screen later this month at the New York Film Festival.

"Wildlife," in which Dano co-wrote the adapted screenplay with his long-term girlfriend, actress/writer Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick, Ruby Sparks), will be released in theaters on October 19th.

synopsis:
14-year-old Joe is the only child of Jeanette and Jerry -- a housewife and a golf pro -- in a small town in 1960s Montana. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job -- and his sense of purpose -- he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves. Suddenly forced into the role of an adult, Joe witnesses his mother's struggle as she tries to keep her head above water.
