It's been called "Shaun of the Dead meets La La Land." And it's the zombie Christmas musical you didn't know you wanted.

Check out the newly-released official trailer for the much-buzzed-about genre mashup, "Anna and the Apocalypse," which features dancing-and-singing British teenagers trying to survive the zombie apocalypse during the peak of the Christmas season.

The film, directed by Scottish comedy helmer John McPhail (Where Do We Go From Here?), stars English actress Ella Hunt (Robot Overlords, Les Miserables) as the titular Anna, a high school misfit who spontaneously breaks out into song and dance when her sleepy British town is suddenly overrun by flesh-eating zombies.

"Anna and the Apocalypse" is the feature-length version of the 2011 BAFTA-winning short film "Zombie Musical," a zombie send-up of "High School Musical" that was written and directed by Scottish film student Ryan McHenry, who sadly passed away in 2015 from bone cancer.

At the time of his death, McHenry (who is also known for creating the popular video meme "Ryan Gosling Won't Eat His Cereal") was developing "Anna" into a feature film. The project was eventually handed over to McHenry's friends and fellow filmmakers, who ended up completing the horror musical as a way to honor and celebrate the work of their dearly departed friend.

"All of us involved, including those who didn't know him, would trade the film we've got to have Ryan back," Alan McDonald, co-writer of "Anna and the Apocalypse," said to the New York Times in a recent article.

Since premiering to glowing reviews at last year's Fantastic Fest, "Anna and the Apocalypse" has been generating a good amount of buzz. It's surely safe to say that it's a cult film in the making.

Co-starring Malcolm Cumming, Sarah Swire, Christopher Leveaux, Marli Siu, Ben Wiggins with Mark Benton and Paul Kaye, "Anna and the Apocalypse" will open theatrically in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin on November 30th before expanding to additional cities through December.

synopsis:
When the zombie apocalypse hits the sleepy town of Little Haven -- at Christmas -- teenager Anna and her high school friends have to fight, sing and dance to survive, with the undead horde all around them. Teaming up with her best friend John, Anna has to fight her way through zombified snowmen, Santas, elves and Christmas shoppers to get across town to the high school, where they'll be safe. But they soon discover that being a teenager is just as difficult as staying alive, even at the end of the world.
