Amandla Stenberg (star of the upcoming Black Lives Matter-inspired drama "The Hate U Give") stars as a biracial German teen girl growing up in Nazi Germany during World War II in "Where Hands Touch," for which an official trailer has been released.

Inspired by a real-life 1940s-era photo of a young African-German girl, the film is the latest from acclaimed British filmmaker Amma Asante, whose credits include directing the biracial period drama "Belle" with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and also the David Oyelowo-Rosamund Pike-starring historical drama "A United Kingdom."

"Where Hands Touch" co-stars George MacKay (from "Captain Fantastic") as the son of a high-ranking SS officer (played here by Christopher Eccleston) and who is also a Hitler Youth member, though a sympathetic one. He develops an unlikely romantic connection with Stenberg's character, who, being a racially-mixed German (with her mother played by Abbie Cornish), is generally looked down upon by white Germans. While living under the Nazi regime, she is eventually deemed as a threat to the German race.

Also, written by Asante, "Where Hands Touch" is premiering this week at the Toronto International Film Festival, and will open in select theaters September 14th.

WHERE HANDS TOUCH is a coming of age story set in the most brutal of times: Germany, 1944. Leyna (Amandla Stenberg), the 15-year old daughter of a white German mother (Abbie Cornish) and a black African father, meets Lutz (George MacKay), a compassionate member of the Hitler Youth whose father (Christopher Eccleston) is a prominent Nazi solider, and they form an unlikely connection in this quickly changing world. As Leyna's mother strives to protect her from the horrors that she could face as a mixed-race German citizen, Leyna is forced to forge her own path as the war goes on and the Nazi's increase their atrocities over the Jews and all dissidents. Can she find an ally in Lutz, himself battling a fate laid out before him that he is hesitant to embrace?
