Hugh Jackman is a U.S. politician caught in a major tabloid scandal in the new official trailer for the upcoming Gary Hart biopic "The Front Runner."

The film, which comes from acclaimed filmmaker Jason Reitman (Tully, Thank You for Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air), is based on journalist Matt Bai's non-fiction book "All the Truth is Out," and it tells the true story of how 1988 Democratic presidential candidate front-runner Gary Hart (portrayed here by Jackman) was forced to drop out of the presidential race because the tabloids had published a damaging story that included a scandalous photo of him and his mistress.

Also starring Vera Farming as Gary Hart's wife, Oletha ("Lee"), and Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons as Hart's long-time campaign manager William ("Bill") Dixon, the movie is chronicling the events leading up to the publication of the infamous photo, which is now regarded as the first political tabloid scandal of its kind.

Co-starring Alfred Molina, Steve Zissis, Bill Burr, Mamoudou Athie, and Sara Paxton, "The Front Runner," which is set to premiere next week at the Toronto International Film Festival, is hitting theaters on November 7th.

Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman stars as the charismatic politician Gary Hart for Academy Award-nominated director Jason Reitman in the new thrilling drama The Front Runner. The film follows the rise and fall of Senator Hart, who captured the imagination of young voters and was considered the overwhelming front runner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination when his campaign was sidelined by the story of an extramarital relationship with Donna Rice. As tabloid journalism and political journalism merged for the first time, Senator Hart was forced to drop out of the race -- events that left a profound and lasting impact on American politics and the world stage.
