With great innovation comes great sacrifice. Sean Penn struggles with that notion as he prepares to lead a crew of astronauts on the first ever human mission to Mars in the new official trailer for "The First."

In his first regular TV gig, the two-time Oscar winner stars as Tom Hagerty, a veteran astronaut struggling with the idea of leaving his teenage daughter behind as he sets out to become the first man on Mars on a space mission that may very well change the fate of the human race.

The 2030-set Hulu original series, which also stars Natascha McElhone (Designated Survivor), Anna Jacoby-Heron (Finding Carter), LisaGay Hamilton (House of Cards), Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls), Hannah Ware (Hitman: Agent 47), and Bill Camp (The Looming Tower), was created and written by Beau Willimon, the acclaimed creator of the award-winning Netflix drama "House of Cards."

Acclaimed Polish filmmaker and veteran TV director Agnieszka Holland (House of Cards, Treme, The Wire) is helming the first two installments of the eight-episode series, which is slated to premiere Friday, September 14th only on Hulu.
