Oscar-nominated "Gone Girl" actress Rosamund Pike portrays celebrated war correspondent Marie Colvin in the first official trailer for "A Private War."

The biographical drama, which marks the feature directorial debut of Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land, City of Ghosts), tells the remarkable true story of Marie Colvin, an intrepid New York-born war reporter who worked nearly three decades for the British newspaper, The Sunday Times, until she was tragically killed from a rocket attack in February 2012 while reporting on the Syrian conflict. It's believed that she and her fellow journalists were deliberately targeted by the Syrian government in a concerted effort to silence the news media.

The film, which also stars "Fifty Shades" star Jamie Dornan as British war photographer Paul Conroy, will also cover how Colvin lost her left eye from shrapnel, for which she became well-known for wearing an eye patch.

Co-starring Stanley Tucci and Tom Hollander, "A Private War" will open in New York and Los Angeles on November 2nd before expanding nationwide November 16th. Watch the trailer, above.

Marie Colvin (Rosamund Pike) is the most celebrated war correspondent of our era -- a woman as comfortable downing martinis with high-society's elite as she is brazenly staring down warlords and fleeing from gunfire. Driven by an enduring desire to bear witness and give voice to the voiceless, Colvin charges into danger, constantly testing the limits between bravery and bravado. A pulse-pounding story told from the frontlines of the most dangerous battlefields in the world, A PRIVATE WAR chronicles Colvin's extraordinary life.
