"Gotham" actor Cory Michael Smith plays a young, closeted gay man who, after living in New York during the devastating AIDS crisis, has returned to his conservative Texas hometown in the newly-released trailer for "1985."

The Reagan Era-set drama, shot in high-contrast black-and-white on 16mm, also stars fellow "Gotham" actor Michael Chiklis as Smith's rugged, Vietnam-vet father, and Virginia Madsen (Sideways, TV's Designated Survivor) as Smith's wholesome, religious mother.

Written and directed by indie filmmaker Yen Tan (Pit Stop), and based on his award-winning short film of the same name, "1985" paints a stark and solemn portrait of a grieving, closeted gay man who has reunited with his conservative family to spend Christmas together -- possibly for the last time, since he secretly fears that he may be dying from a new, mysterious disease called AIDS, which has already taken six of his closest friends.

Also, co-starring Jamie Chung (TV's The Gifted), "1985" premiered to rave reviews back in March at the SXSW Film Festival. The film is now slated for an October 26th release.
