Check out the first official teaser trailer for "Ben is Back," a dysfunctional mother-son drama that stars Academy Award-winner Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich) and Academy Award-nominee Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea).

The film, which is written and directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter-turned-filmmaker Peter Hedges, who wrote "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and "About a Boy" -- and who also happens to be Lucas Hedges' real-life father, is set over the course of a tense 24 hour period, during which a recovering drug-addicted 19 year-old, Ben (Hedges), returns home unexpectedly to his long-suffering mother (played by Roberts) on Christmas Eve morning.

"Ben is Back," which can be viewed as a possible awards contender, is slated to premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will then open in select theaters on December 7th, via Roadside Attractions.

synopsis:
19 year-old Ben Burns (Lucas Hedges) unexpectedly returns home to his family's suburban home on Christmas Eve morning. Ben's mother, Holly (Julia Roberts), is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son staying clean. Over a turbulent 24 hours, new truths are revealed, and a mother's undying love for her son is tested as she does everything in her power to keep him safe.
