Acclaimed character actor Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One, Rogue One, Bloodline) lands a leading role in the upcoming Netflix film from writer-director Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said, Friends with Money), for which a trailer has been released.

Mendelsohn, who is mostly known for playing villains and other despicable people, is getting a chance to show off a less-evil side of himself as he plays a middle-age divorced man who, while living in a mess of his own making, is having a really hard time coping with retirement as he moves on to the next phase of his life in "The Land of Steady Habits," Holofcener's bittersweet portrait of a splintered upper-class family from Connecticut.

"Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" actor Thomas Mann also stars as Mendelsohn's disgruntled son, while Edie Falco (The Sopranos, Nurse Jackie) plays Mendelsohn's ex-wife.

Co-starring Elizabeth Marvel, Connie Britton, and Charlie Tahan, "The Land of Steady Habits" is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Ted Thompson. And the Netflix film is set to premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival just before arriving on the streaming service on September 14th.

synopsis:
Anders Hill (Ben Mendelsohn), long ensconced in "the land of steady habits" -- the affluent hamlets of Connecticut that dot the commuter rail line -- is finally ready to reap the rewards of a sensible life. Into his mid fifties and newly retired, his grown son's college tuitions paid in full, Anders decides he's had enough of steady habits: he leaves his wife (Edie Falco), buys a condo, and waits for freedom to transform him.

Stripped of the comforts of his previous identity, Anders embarks on a clumsy, and heartbreaking journey to reconcile his past with his present. Written and directed by Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said, Friends with Money), the film is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Ted Thompson.
