A brand-new red band trailer has been released for "The Happytime Murders," the upcoming raunchy, filthy puppet cop comedy produced and directed by award-winning puppeteer/director Brian Henson, son of legendary puppeteer Jim Henson.

The film stars comic superstar Melissa McCarthy as Connie Edwards, a hard-boiled LAPD homicide detective who, after being assigned to hunt down an elusive serial murderer who is killing off former cast members of a beloved '80s puppet television show, must team up with her old puppet partner, a once decorated officer, but now a sleazy private eye named Phil Philips (performed by veteran Muppet puppeteer Bill Barretta).

The cast also includes Joel McHale, Maya Rudolph, Elizabeth Banks, and several grungy-looking puppets.

Written by Todd Berger (the writer and director of the apocalyptic indie comedy "It's a Disaster") from a story he co-wrote with Dee Austin Robertson, "The Happytime Murders" is coming to theaters August 24th.

synopsis:
