An emergency call operator answers a disturbing phone call from a young panic-stricken woman. But when the call is suddenly disconnected, the operator is put in a difficult situation -- he must figure out if the woman is truly being abducted by a kidnapper.

Check out the official U.S. trailer for "The Guilty, " an upcoming Danish suspense thriller that primarily takes place in one room -- at a Danish emergency call center where a police officer (played by Danish TV actor Jakob Cedergren, "Those Who Kill"), who was recently demoted to desk duty, is now working as an emergency dispatcher. But when he receives a cryptic emergency call, he spends the rest of his time trying to determine its legitimacy.

Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Gustav Moller, "The Guilty" premiered to rave reviews at this year's Sundance Film Festival, where it took home an Audience Award.

Acquired by Magnolia Pictures, "The Guilty" is being released in U.S. theaters on October 9th. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
When police officer Asger Holm (Jakob Cedergren) is demoted to desk work, he expects a sleepy beat as an emergency dispatcher. That all changes when he answers a panicked phone call from a kidnapped woman who then disconnects abruptly. Asger, confined to the police station, is forced to use others as his eyes and ears as the severity of the crime slowly becomes more clear. The search to find the missing woman and her assailant will take every bit of his intuition and skill, as a ticking clock and his own personal demons conspire against him. This innovative and unrelenting Danish thriller uses a single location to great effect, ratcheting up the tension as twists pile up and secrets are revealed.

Director Gustav Moller expertly frames the increasingly messy proceedings against the clean Scandinavian sterility of the police department, while Cedergren's strong performance anchors the film and places the audience squarely in Holm's tragically flawed yet well-intentioned mindspace.
