While turning despair and pain into dignity and power, this is the inspirational story of the women of City of Joy, a human rights community center in war-torn Congo, where African women who've been sexually brutalized learn to regain a sense of self and empowerment.

Directed by filmmaker Madeleine Gavin, "City of Joy" is an award-winning documentary about the uplifting tale of healing and recovery, set against the backdrop of the worst place in the world to be a woman: the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

After spending most of last year on the festival circuit, "City of Joy" will now be released exclusively on Netflix beginning Friday, September 7th. Watch the trailer, above.
