Jonah Hill and Emma Stone lose their grip on reality in the official trailer for "Maniac," the new limited Netflix series from Emmy-winning director Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation), in which Hill and Stone star as two lonely strangers participating in a clinical trial for a new mind-altering drug.

Based on the darkly comic Norwegian show of the same name, the ten-episode series also features Justin Theroux (star of HBO's The Leftovers) as Dr. James K. Mantleray, an eccentric psychoanalyst, with a calm, soothing voice, who runs the pharmaceutical testing facility. Hill and Stone's characters, Owen and Annie, are Dr. Mantleray's main subjects.

"Do you know where you are ... right now?" The Doctor asks Annie. "I'm in a drug trial," she quickly answers.

"What do you think is wrong with you?" The Doctor asks Owen. "I'm sick. [I feel like] I don't matter," he answers with a gloomy tone in his voice.

The Doctor then asks Annie another question, "What would you say this trial is showing you about yourself?"

Annie quips "Is this therapy now?" To which the Doctor retorts "It's not therapy ... it's science."

Written and created by TV producer/writer Patrick Somerville (The Leftovers, The Bridge) with Joji Fukunaga directing the entire mini-series, "Maniac" also stars Oscar-winner Sally Field as a concerned doctor who believes Dr. Mantleray may not be acting in his patient's best interest.

The supporting cast includes Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Jemima Kirke (Girls), and Julia Garner (Ozark).

Prepare to "appreciate the structure of the mind" when "Maniac" premieres exclusively on Netflix beginning Friday, September 21st.
