Horror director Craig William Macneill, whose credits include 2015's hypnotic thriller "The Boy" and the first season of the SyFy anthology series "Channel Zero," is putting his spin on the grisly tale of Lizzie Borden, the infamous New England spinster who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with a hatchet in 1892.

Chloe Sevigny (Boys Don't Cry, HBO's Big Love) portrays the notorious ax murderess in "Lizzie," an unsettling psychological thriller that is suggesting Borden had a secret affair with her father's mistreated housemaid (played by former "Twilight" starlet Kristen Stewart).

In addition to Sevigny and Stewart, the film also features Kim Dickens (TV's Fear The Walking Dead) as Lizzie's sister, Emma; Jamey Sheridan (Spotlight) as Lizzie's abusive father, Andrew; Fiona Shaw (TV's Killing Eve) as Lizzie's complicit stepmother, Abby, and Denis O'Hare (FX's American Horror Story) as Lizzie's sleazy uncle, John Morse.

Written by Bryce Kass, "Lizzie," which premiered at Sundance this year, will open in select theaters on September 14th. Watch the film's official trailer, above.
