Sanaa Lathan (The Best Man Holiday, Love & Basketball) gives herself a life-changing hair makeover in the official trailer for the upcoming Netflix original film "Nappily Ever After," which is based on the novel of the same name by author Trisha R. Thomas.

Here, Lathan stars as Violet Jones, a successful businesswoman and perfectionist who, after getting into a dispute with her commitment-phobic boyfriend (played by "American Gods" star Ricky Whittle), while also suffering a major mishap at work, realizes her life isn't so perfect or even that fulfilling. Now determined to figure out what constitutes true happiness, Violet chooses to free herself by shaving her curls off, embracing her natural hair.

Co-starring Lyriq Bent, Ernie Hudson, Lynn Whitfield, and Camille Guaty, the Netflix film is directed by Saudi Arabian filmmaker Haifaa Al-Mansour. She is the first female Saudi filmmaker in history who made her feature debut with the acclaimed Saudi mother-daughter drama "Wadjda" and just recently directed the Elle Fanning-starring "Mary Shelley" biopic.

Also, produced by Lathan, "Nappily Ever After" is due to premiere September 21st on Netflix.

synopsis:
Violet Jones (Sanaa Lathan) has a seemingly flawless life -- a great job, a handsome doctor boyfriend, and a meticulously maintained perfect coiffure. But after an accident at the hair-dresser, each of these things start to unravel, and Violet begins to realize that she was living the life she thought she was supposed to live, not the one that she really wanted.
