While investigating a juicy story, Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock, an intrepid street reporter, suddenly gets "taken" by a mysterious alien parasite in the brand-new trailer for the anti-superhero thriller "Venom."

The Sony film, which also stars Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed, is based on the popular Marvel character who, in the comic books, started out as a major Spider-Man villain but later became an anti-hero.

Here, Hardy plays Eddie Brock, a lowly investigative reporter in San Francisco who, while acting on an insider's tip, takes a look at a suspicious science research program. He then finds something "really bad," which changes his life forever.

Brock has a surprise encounter with a "symbiote," a powerful sentient alien lifeforce. When it takes control over Brock's body, they merge together into a black gooey, Jaws-like creature, calling themselves, "Venom." Now the fun really begins.

"Eddie cooperate. And you just might survive," says Venom in the new extended preview, which is showing off more of the film's digital effects and action sequences.

Directed by "Zombieland" helmer Ruben Fleischer, "Venom" will be oozing into theaters on October 5th.

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
