Prepare to go inside the twisted mind of a coma-stricken serial killer when "Mr. Mercedes" returns with its second season in late August.

Brendan Gleeson (Braveheart, the Harry Potter films) is back as retired homicide detective Bill Hodges in the new season of the critically acclaimed AT&T Audience Network series based on horror master Stephen King's best-selling detective books.

The official Season 2 trailer has been released, and it shows Hodges is still haunted by the "Mr. Mercedes" killer (played by Penny Dreadful's Harry Treadaway), despite the fact that he now remains unresponsive at a hospital, deep in a vegetative coma.

The new season will follow Hodges as he tries to finally step away from the "Mr. Mercedes" case, only to be pulled right back in when hospital staff members notice a significant change in the killer's condition.

"I don't think he's gone," says Gleeson's Hodges as he comes up with a wild theory. "I think he's hypnotizing people, somehow."

Well, that conjures the question, is it possible for someone lying dead in a coma to have the uncanny ability to control people's minds?" Well, it seems in a world created by Stephen King, anything is possible.

Also, starring Justine Lupe, Holland Taylor, Jharrel Jerome, and Breeda Wool with Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston joining the cast, "Mr. Mercedes," which is executive produced by mega producer David E. Kelley and Jack Bender, who also directs, is set to return Wednesday, August 22nd on DirecTV Now and AT&T Audience Network.
