Two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank and two-time Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon play a pair of siblings in the trailer for the upcoming family crisis drama "What They Had."

When her elderly mother (Blythe Danner) is found wandering the snow-covered streets of Chicago, Bridget (Swank), a married woman in California, immediately travels back to her Midwestern hometown. Once there, Bridget is informed by her brother, Nicky (Shannon), a local bar owner, that their mother is suffering from an advanced stage of Alzheimer's.

Bridget feels compelled to stay in Chicago and work out a plan with her brother to deal with their mother's condition. The problem is, their father (played by Jackie Brown's Robert Forster) is still in denial, and he has no desire to move his "girl" into a full-time care facility.

"What They Had" marks the feature film debut of actress-turned-writer-director Elizabeth Chomko.

Co-starring Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) as Swank's teenage daughter; and Josh Lucas (The Mysteries of Laura) as Swank's unhappy husband, the family drama premiered to positive reviews at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

"What They Had" is currently slated to hit theaters October 12th.
