The USA Network has released the official full-length trailer for "The Purge: TV Series," a 10-episode side-sequel to the popular horror film franchise created by filmmaker James DeMonaco.

Like the movies, the series takes place in a dystopian future America where the U.S. government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period during which all crime, including murder, is legal.

Executive producer Thomas Kelly (Netflix's "The Get Down, BBC America's Copper) is serving as showrunner on the cable series, which features an ensemble cast that includes Reed Diamond, William Baldwin, Lee Tergesen, Gabriel Chavarria, Jessica Garza, Fiona Dourif, Amanda Warren, and Lili Simmons.

Following the lives of several Americans as they try to survive the night of the Purge, the USA thriller will start with an opening episode directed by Anthony Hemingway, the Emmy-winning producer-director of "The People v. O. J. Simpson" who also recently helmed the USA true-crime mini-series "Unsolved: The Murders Of Tupac And The Notorious B.I.G."

"The Purge: TV Series" is slated to air Tuesday, September 4th on USA Network -- with its premiere and finale episodes to be simulcast on SYFY.

synopsis:
Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse productions, THE PURGE revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in a dystopian America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. Tying them all together is a mysterious savior who's impeccably equipped for everything the night throws at them. As the clock winds down with their fates hanging in the balance, each character is forced to reckon with their pasts as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.
